2024 CSA Program: How It Works!

Our CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture Program, is a partnership between our farm, partnering farms and households within the community who would like to support us by subscribing to shares of fresh produce available on a weekly basis. Our shares reflect seasonal, assorted vegetables and occasional fruits, from May through October (6-months.)

What’s available?

Half-shares and full-shares of our farm’s, and other local farms’, fresh vegetables and occasional fruits based on what is available that week. There may be options for additional products, such as beef, pork, eggs and baked goods, from our partnering farms that may be purchased and picked-up with your weekly share.

Although all of our shares have been reserved for the rest of the season, you can email Maddy, the CSA Coordinator, and request to be put on the waiting list. maddy@mackintoshfruitfarm.com.

When does the program begin?

Weekly shares will be available for pick-up at the farm OR delivery* (within 10 miles) on Thursdays, beginning May 9th.

There will be two options available for purchasing shares:

Option 1: All Season, 6 month agreement

Shareholders agree to a monthly charge (card on file required), which will reserve the share for the entire May-October season. (26 weeks: beginning the second week of May, and ending October 31st.) This agreement guarantees your weekly share from the time of your purchase through the final delivery in October. If you are interested in reserving a share for the rest of the season, after the May sign-up deadline, please contact Maddy, the CSA manager: maddy@mackintoshfruitfarm.com with your request.

Option 2: One Month Special

Shareholders agree to a 4-week share, paid in full, which can only be purchased while shares are still available.
*This option does not guarantee shares will be available after your 4-week agreement.

All shares have been reserved. You can email Maddy, the CSA Coordinator, and request to be put on the waiting list. maddy@mackintoshfruitfarm.com.

2024 CSA FAQs

How long does the 2024 CSA Program last?

The Season Share lasts 26 weeks: beginning the week of May 9th and ending the week of Oct. 31st. The One-Month Special lasts only 4-weeks and does not guarantee share availability thereafter.

How often can I expect to see fruits in my shares?

The frequency of seeing fruit in your weekly box depends on many factors including: weather patterns, the season of each fruit, and the length of each season. Smaller fruits, like berries (strawberries, blackberries, etc.) may only appear once throughout the season, due to their short-lived season and high-demand. Other, larger fruits, like apples may appear in your boxes more frequently later in the season because of their longer season and spectacular shelf-life. Fruits are likely to be sparse in the Spring but may increase throughout the Summer and into the Fall. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee fruit will be present in every box, or even every-other-box, but we ensure that we will do our best to prioritize your shares and fulfill your family’s needs.

When can I expect to see certain fruits and veggies?

You can refer to the following link to get a general idea of what is likely to be available each month:

We currently have a hydroponic vegetable greenhouse (picture attached; taken March 3rd, 2024), where we grow an assortment of tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and eggplant. The heated house contains about 400 plants total, which we’ll begin harvesting near the end of April, so you are likely to see a variety of greenhouse vegetables early and late in the season, when cold temperatures are a threat to our outdoor crops.

What if I don’t want something in my weekly share?

You can make ONE substitution for an item in your box each week within the Google Form, which is sent out every Monday. There may be times where you receive a vegetable that you’ve never seen before; in this case, we encourage you to experiment with cooking/preparing it and giving it a try. Or, maybe you’ve received tomatoes several weeks in a row, simply gifting produce to a friend or neighbor is a great way to ensure extra food doesn’t go to waste!

How should I store my CSA produce?

We ask that you store the bulk of your produce in a cool place and do not wash veggies or fruits until right before preparing or eating them. The naturally existing microbiome surrounding fresh produce acts as a natural preservative to keep it fresh. Products like leafy greens and lettuces should be stored in the refrigerator. Any details regarding storing specific produce, will either be included within the weekly email or on a card in your share box.

What do I do if I’m going out of town and won’t be able to pick-up my share?

You can arrange for a friend or family member to pick-up your share, or you can email Maddy, to let her know you won’t need your share that week. Missed shares will not be refunded.
